The Senate has to establish a Working Group on Equal Opportunities (Arbeitskreis für Gleichbehandlungsfragen) at every Austrian university.

Its task is to work against sexual discrimination and against discrimination concerning ethnic origin, religion or world view, age or sexual orientation by executive bodies of the university and to give advice and support to members and executive bodies of the university concerning these matters (§ 42 paragraph 1, Universities Act (UG)).

Moreover, the Working Group on Equal Opportunities is concerned with affirmative action for women (§ 42 paragraph 1 UG, § 41 paragraph 2 Federal Equal Treatment Act (B-GlBG)).
