Education: Abitur 1960 in Bielefeld. Study of Geology in Marburg/Lahn, Zürich, and Bonn.
Masters degree on December 11, 1968, Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelm-Universität Bonn.
Ph. D. June 14, 1974, Freie Universität Berlin.

Research:

Theoretical work in applied mathematics and computer application in structural geology.
Field work and structural analysis in the Afghan Hindukush (PhD thesis). Structural work in Greece and the Apennines. Leader of a DFG-project on structural geology in the Anti-Atlas (Morocco). Participation in the FWF-Project S4713-Geo (Pre-Alpidic Crust). Leader of the FWF-projects on structural Geology, petrology, and geochemistry in the Eastern Desert of Egypt (P09703-Geo), 'Geodynamic setting of the Panafrican orogenesis' (P12375-Geo) in Kenya and Tanzania.
Leader of the FWF-projects 'Ductile shear zones of the Kola Peninsula' and P-13807 'Kinematic analysis of rock flow in ductile shear zones using three dimensional studies of natural and experimental porphyroklasts'. Leader of FWF-project p-15599 'Panafrikanische und ältere Orogenese in Tansania', starting July 2002.

Languages:

English and French fluently, good knowledge in Persian, basic knowledge in Arabic and Swahili.
