Negative ions: General aspects and some diatomic examples

An introductory overview of the various negative ion typologies is presented: in specific valence bound, dipolarly bound, and resonance species are exposed in short. In the sequel these general categories will be discussed in more detail using the recent results on a few diatomics, composed of group 1 and group 14 elements.
