The Grazer Universitäts Orchester was founded in 1992. Our members include students, staff, and alumni of the universities of Graz (the Technical University, the Karl-Franzens University, the Medical University, and the University of Music and Performing Arts).
Our repertoire reaches from the Baroque through the Vienna Classic and Romantic eras into the 21st century. As the biggest amateur orchestra in Graz, we have become established as part of the regional cultural scene. We are sought after as a stage and event orchestra (for example since 2002 at the local storytelling festival Graz erzählt! as well as at the avant garde festival steirischer herbst [Styrian autumn]).
The orchestra also performs in domestic (Austrian) and international venues (1995 in Greece, 1998 in the Netherlands, 2002 in Spain). A tour to Finland is planned for 2005. We are continually interested in seeking new contacts with other university orchestras.
